Model 4950 Tray table by George Nelson for Vitra

George Nelson for Vitra
Design: 1948-49 | Manufactured: 2002 (first production)

The model 4950 tray table, designed by George Nelson for Herman Miller, shows simplicity at its best. Designed in 1948-49, this re-edition by Vitra Design from 2002 (thanks to a marketing agreement with Herman Miller) is now extremely rare. This version was the first production. Featuring an elegant and refined design, this piece boasts a cantilevered, molded black plywood tray top, making it highly versatile. Its adjustable height allows it to function effectively in various rooms throughout the home. Originally designed in 1948-49, this iconic piece is part of the Vitra Design Museum Collection and the permanent Museum of Modern Art collection.

Herman Miller Inc. is an American company that produces office furniture, equipment, and home furnishings, best known for its iconic Eames Lounge Chair from the mid-1950s, also designed by Nelson. As Herman Miller’s Director of Design from 1947-72, George Nelson created numerous innovative furniture pieces, becoming the company’s most successful period.
